Happiness and personal satisfaction are not a matter of circumstance. Being comfortable with who you are and where you are is a matter of choice. Unfortunately, many of us get caught up in the same old routine of life, and we forget that we have control over ourselves and our actions. Today, we’ll touch on a few bad habits that you may be holding onto that are holding you back from living your best life
Never getting off the couch.
Living a sedentary lifestyle can make you lazy, complacent, and unwell. Look for motivation to get moving and quit spending all of your free time binge-watching Netflix specials. If you’re not sure what type of exercise you like, try a few different activities like yoga, weight training, hiking, or a team sport.
Living in a disorganized or chaotic home.
Clutter sends visual signals to our brain that the world around us isn’t the safe haven we need it to be. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center explains that a cluttered environment can push you toward making unhealthy decisions, such as eating poorly or not exercising. Spend a weekend cleaning and organizing your home, and you may find that you go to bed more easily and wake relaxed and refreshed.
Staying on the payroll at a job you hate.

Changing jobs might not always be the most emotionally comfortable thing to do, but it is an opportunity to push through fear and give yourself new experiences and a happier existence. Eating only processed foods.
Processed foods (boxed macaroni, microwave meals, etc.) are certainly convenient and can give you more time. However, what they can also do is put you at a greater risk of heart disease, obesity, and even diabetes. The added sugar in many processed items can also trigger compulsive overeating. Medical News Today also explains that they are stripped of their nutrients and a low in beneficial dietary fiber. Stick to whole foods instead, and, when you want a treat, make it from scratch.
Living in the past.
You may think that you’ve had better days than you have now. The truth is that you don’t, and today is the best day of your life. Quit living in the past, or you may never be able to move forward. If you’re divorced, for example, it can help to change your environment and reduce contact to only discuss matters relating to the kids. Remember, there’s a reason that you’re no longer together, and you now have an opportunity to live your life on your terms.
Letting other people make your decisions.
As an adult, you should be in full control of your entire life. Stop letting other people make or sway your decisions if you don’t feel right about a choice. You don’t have to constantly go along with the crowd to seek approval. While there’s nothing wrong with taking advice from ones you love, ultimately, you are the only one walking in your footsteps, and you have to be in control.
Our happiness or unhappiness is all about the choices we make. There are many things we can do to improve our overall well-being. There are also lots of things we can stop doing, such as the bad habits listed above. Remember, it’s your life, and it’s time that you take the wheel and drive.
